It's the day before we leave, the sun is shining & I have just finished my holiday book - Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. We have spent four nights in the hustle & bustle of Marrakech & travelled to the picturesque Atlas Mountains to spend three days of pure relaxation.
So where do I start? No words can describe how beautiful this place is...you are surrounded by mountains & local Berber villages in the distance. The hotel has an excellent balance between traditional Moroccan features and modern comforts.
The hotel was bought by Richard Branson for his mother Eve who does philanthropic work with the people near the hotel. The Eve Branson Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides the Moroccan communities with income-generating projects & training. 90% of the staff at the Kasbah Tamadot are local Berber people.
The staff at the Kasbah Tamadot think of everything.....we arrive to a private tour of the hotel with welcome drinks & then are shown to our room. As we enter, the bed, bath and tables are scattered with fresh rose petals. As we are shown our balcony we catch a glimpse of the magical view overlooking the hotel grounds and the mountains in the distance. Its looks like a picture postcard. The minibar is fully stocked and complimentary! Pre-stamped postcards left on the bedside table were a thoughtful detail. Even the towels smelt of flowers! All these added extras really makes the stay more enjoyable.
As a treat, I booked my first 'hamam'. I wasn't sure what to expect! I was invited to lay on a mat on a bench in a large room which reminded me of a sauna. The hamam started with a wash down, followed by the application of a clay mask, then an exfoliation with an abrasive mitt, ending with a hair wash & argan oil massage on the entire body. It was a pleasant experience & my skin felt amazing after - i just don't recommend the treatment with sunburn! (which i had)
Before we left we had a brief visit at their mini farm which has two horses, two donkeys, two camels, chickens/roosters, two peacocks & two cats! Friendliest camels I have ever met - very adorable.
The Kasbah is a wonderful experience, a perfect destination for a chilled holiday whether it's with the girls or for your honeymoon. You are treated like royalty & see views you definitely won't see anywhere else.
